With an area of 356 square km, Cat Ba encompasses forested zones, coastal mangroves, freshwater swamps, beaches, caves and waterfalls. In 1986, the Northeast side of the island was designated a National Park and includes a protected marine zone.
This town is small and ancient, with clusters of fishing boats. It is an ideal spot to watch inspiring sunsets across the harbor. You can even check out the catch-of-the-day in the early morning as the fishing boats return to port. See cuttlefish dried over hot charcoals, or stroll around the old town. You can even hike further along the beach to reach the rockier Cat Vang Beach.
Imagine a place with thousands of lime formations rising out of the water…this is the World Heritage Listed Halong Bay, where there are thousands of perfectly formed beaches, little bush covered islands, sheltered lagoons, and sea caves. An absolute paradise for kayakers and nature lovers of all kinds, kayaking Cat Ba and Ha Long will provide you with a treasure trove of memories that will last a lifetime.
Kayaks for rent in the area:
Apart from the heavy home-made fiberglass boats that are perfectly suited for beginners, BlueSwimmer Adventures is offering a new fleet of true single sea kayaks made in South Africa for those who like a bit more active paddling or who want to venture further out into the sea.
